Trump and Values
For readers who, 10 years ago, considered themselves middle of the road American Democrats. Please use this self assessment tool. Please try to put on one side names of leading politicians of today and names of contentious issues when answering these questions with a Yes or a No.
All nations, groups and individuals are fundamentally imperfect.
Humility and the ability to acknowledge one’s own mistakes are the duty of all of us.
As reformers we should be realistic in setting aims and outcomes and avoid harming more people than we help.
When we encounter disagreement we should assume it is well intentioned.
We should admit responsibility or weakness when we get something wrong.
We should invite others to talk without interrupting them
We should not seek to punish those who have different opinions from ourselves.
We will not use our financial power to achieve our desired outcomes without fully declaring the use to which we put any amount of money greater than that of a family for a month (.I.e. all discretionary expenditure).
We should seek to unseat elected leaders by secretly plotting, undermining with lies or rumor and full reference to police and courts.
We will campaign peacefully for a judiciary which is truly independent of political parties and causes.
